Obituary For William H Stimpel

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers as we face the loss of our dad, Bill Stimpel. He was the best dad and friend to us, the best Papa to his grandkids, and best husband to our mom. We were so fortunate to have celebrated our parent’s 50th anniversary in July and took some amazing family pictures that we will cherish even more now. Hope he is surfing an awesome wave right about now.

Bill passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023, in Alachua, Florida, following a brief battle with ALS.

Bill was born in Oklahoma on February 25, 1946, to William Stimpel, Jr., and Marjorie Thompson. He has two younger brothers, Thom and Rick. The family moved to Southern California where those country boys became surfer dudes. After graduating high school, he moved to Hawaii and later began traveling the world. In his life, he’s been to every continent except Antarctica.

Bill married Rosemary Stimpel in June 1973. They had Janaki (1974) and Sundari (1975) before moving to Los Angeles and having William IV (1976). Jahnava joined the family in 1981 and, in 1983, moved to Three Rivers, CA. Nadia completed the family in 1985.

Bill worked for his uncle’s construction company for many years before he assisted Rosemary in starting her own business, Force Traffic Control. This business allowed him to spend time throughout California and Nevada, working on various job sites, including the Generals Highway in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks. After retirement, Bill and Rosemary spent time with their kids and 10 grandkids and traveled to India and Hawaii. They moved to Alachua, Florida, in 2021.

Being outdoors and enjoying nature was vital to Bill. He loved surfing, skiing, hiking, and camping. He could often be found enjoying the sunrise. Bill taught his children all about the night sky and the different constellations and stars. His grandkids loved getting tractor rides from their Papa. A masterful storyteller, he was always happy sharing his experiences and chatting with friends, new and old.

Bill has joined his daughter Sundari and is survived by his wife Rosemary, children Janaki (Chris McIsaac), William (Jennifer Stimpel), Jahnava (Andy Adams), and Nadia (Louie Lopez), and ten grandchildren, Ethan, Caleb, Ryder, Delaney, Sundari, Tristan, Colin, Joel, Diego, and Nayana, his brothers Thom (Melodye) and Rick (Michele), and innumerable friends.

Private cremation services were held last week and a memorial will be held in Alachua at a later date.
