Obituary For Shirley Iola Lusk
Shirley Iola (Winkler) Lusk, 84, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 24, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Gillett, Wisconsin, she spent most of her life in Florida. Throughout her life, she instilled in her children her love for adventure and joy. Known for her laughter and adventurous spirit, she recently discovered a passion for the opera. She enjoyed the little things in life, like tending to her garden, watching squirrels out her window, collecting nicknacks, and giving thoughtful gifts to others. She enjoyed murder mystery shows, finding joy in a good BOGO or sale, and always had a soft spot for Scooby-Doo and the Peanuts gang.
Her life was filled with rich experiences, including traveling and living throughout the United States, living in Cuba and fulfilling a lifelong dream by traveling to Germany. She was mischievous, a little rebellious, and fiercely headstrong—once she set her mind on something, she did it with determination and conviction. She was also known for having a beer in hand while cheering on her beloved Green Bay Packers, a tradition that brought her joy.
Shirley is survived by her five children: Jeff (Mary) Pergande, Fort White, FL; Paul (Diane) Pergande, Sanford, FL; Bryan (Judy) Pergande, Weed, CA; Machelle Lusk, Clermont, FL; and Michael Lusk; her grandchildren Steven, Crystal, Erik, Jennifer, Thomas, Valerie, Jacy, Krystal, and Cassi; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Helen Smith, Wauwatosa, WI; Edwin Jr. (Joyce) Winkler, Gillett, WI; Randy (Peggy) Winkler, Gillett, WI; Rick (Sandy) Winkler, Muskego, WI; Judy Wagner, Gillett, WI; Bonnie (Ken) Juza, Suamico, WI; and Debbie (Bryon) Huffman, Wausau, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Dorothy Blanchard; Robert Winkler, Gene Winkler, and MaryAnn Sell; and sister-in-law, Barbara Winkler and brothers-in-law, Donald Wagner, John Smith, and grandson Jeffrey Pergande.
Her family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial in her hometown of Gillet, WI in March 2025, and all who knew her will fondly remember her laughter, her love of life, and the joy she brought to others.
