Rose Ellen Longhurst, 44, of Lake City, Florida was escorted into Heaven by her late parents; Edna (Wilkinson) and Bertram Tillis Sr., on August 1, 2023. After meeting Jesus, she found the rainbow bridge for her wild assortment of animals that she loved dearly. Rose was born on September 28, 1978, in Palatka, Florida. She was a devout Christian who always made it a point to radiate love from her heart and soul every moment of her life. She was a single mother to her only child, until she met and fell in love with her soul mate, Philip Longhurst, and married on February 14, 2018, when they officially became a family. They moved to Ft. Lauderdale for his job, but she longed to return to the country. Once he was able to work remotely, they moved to Lake City to be near her hometown. Rose was the matriarch of the family. She was most proud of being a mother and wife. Rose loved being with nature and naturing the garden. Her hands were never idle; Rose was constantly taking care of the family, the house, the garden, the animals, and still found time for her creative endeavors such as artwork and up-cycling furniture. Rose was quick-witted and had one-line zingers that kept a smile on everyone’s face and laughter and love in their hearts. She was always the source of positivity and happiness that she spread to everyone around her, and her family knew they were loved. Rose is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Philip Longhurst, daughter, Kayla Longhurst; dogs; Koa and Loke, siblings; Sharon Minshew, John Brunson, Sandra Bidwell, Marcelle McLauchlin, Bertram Tillis Jr., and Dianne Middleton, numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. Her dream was to have a nursery where she could grow her plants and flowers to share with others. In lieu of cut flowers, please make either a plant or monetary donation to start her nursery: “Rose’s Roses”.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at ICS Cremation & Funeral Home located at 357 NW Wilks Lane, Lake City, FL 32055. The Longhurst Family will host guests for the visitation from 10:00-11:00 am. Ministers Sophia Smith and Betty Thomas to officiate.
