Obituary For Robert James Washington

Robert James Washington, born July 17, 1953, in Quincy, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Monday October 13, 2025 at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his father Quill Washington, his mother Fannie Washington Smith, his oldest brother Arthur Washington, and his stepfather Nathaniel Smith. Robert received his education in the Gadsden County School System. While in high school, he met and married shortly thereafter, the love of his life, Gloria Jean Underwood. He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1971 to November 1974. While serving in the Air Force he received his AA degree in Business from Riverside Community College in Riverside, California. Robert operated a cleaning business locally for a number of years. He also worked in the purchasing department of both the City of Quincy and the City of Tallahassee. While in the Air Force, Robert began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Upon being discharged, he dedicated his life to Jehovah and symbolized that dedication by water baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 23, 1974 in Los Angeles, California. The Christian ministry now became the focal point of his life and he really enjoyed sharing the truths he had learned with others. His life course demonstrates a record of Godly devotion, including service as a Regular Pioneer, Congregation Elder [Englewood and Moreno Valley, California, and the Quincy English and Havana English Congregations in Florida]. He also served for many years as Circuit Cleaning Department Overseer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria Jean Washington, 1 daughter, Kem Washington of Atlanta, Georgia, 2 sons, Thaddaeus Washington (wife Jillian) 1 grandson Julian, Atlanta, Georgia, David Washington, Quincy, Florida, a brother, Marcus Washington of Quincy, Florida, and his sister, Lizzie Washington of Southfield, Michigan. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
