Obituary For Nelson Duane Dull

Nelson Duane Dull, age 72, passed away suddenly on April 30, 2025 at HCA of Florida, Lake City. His laughter and positivity will live on in our hearts and memories.

Nelson was born on March 24th, 1953 in Battle Creek Michigan to Nelson M. Dull and Delores E. (Jackson) Dull. He attended school in the Battle Creek School district graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1971.

After graduation he was drafted the last year of the draft in 1972 to the United States Army where he received Expert (Rifle) Badge and National Defense Service Medal. His last duty assignment in the Army was with the Military Police. He then began work at the Veterans Administration in various positions and moving on to be the Foreman of Grounds. He also worked for 17 years with the City of Battle Creek in the Wastewater Department as a Lift Station Operator.

In 1995 he met Sally (Fox) and they were wed in 1997. Together they enjoyed many family gatherings, two cruises, golfing at the Suwannee Country Club in Live Oak, FL, singing karaoke, spending time with friends, a prank on each other now and again, and wonderful times fishing on rivers and lakes of Michigan.

Nelson loved to recall memories of adventures and times of mischief spent as a young boy at the river with his other childhood friends. He loved to be outside with his friends.

Nelson was an optimistic force of nature, determined to make a friend with whomever he met and shine a bright light among all. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he mentioned this often. He was unendingly proud of and thankful for his wife Sally, children Jessie and Michael, grandchildren, sisters, cousins and extended family. He was always there to support them with a caring phone call or a nice letter. One of his latest joys was being a part of Buck’s Buddies at the golf course where he loved the company of the men and sometimes a good shot at the hole. He looked forward to the days he golfed and it gave his retirement purpose.

Anyone who knew Nelson knew that he was the most loving, fun, giving husband, Dad, Grandpa and friend a person could ask for. Nelson was predeceased by his father Nelson M. Dull, mother Delores, and Martie Dull. He is survived by his wife Sally Dull, daughter Jessie (Wilfredo) Collazo, her mother Sandy Dull, son Michael (Tessa) Curcuro, grandchildren Michael, Manny, Antonio, Calvin, Keziah, Kuyper and Carlton, sisters Debbie McDonald (Charlie) and Cathy (James) Bruce, brother-in laws Doug (Gail) Fox, Nick (Diedre) Fox, sister in laws Robin Tagg, Karen (Tim) Smothers, mother in law Nelda (Gary) Charles, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Uncle Bart (Mary) Spratto, Aunt Jeanne Roche’.

There will be a military service on Monday, June 9 at 10:30 am at the Fort Custer National Cemetery 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the PCF (Prostate Cancer Foundation) at https://www.pcf.org/ and click on the GIVE tab. Notes or correspondence can be sent to Sally Dull 1110 SW McFarlane Ave, # 101, Lake City, FL or Jessica Collazo 11400 3 Β½ Mile Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
