Obituary For John Marcellus Fantone

John Marcellus Fantone, 82, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, after a life defined by devotion to his family, enduring friendships, and unwavering integrity. Born on August 4, 1943, in Washington, D.C., John moved to the Tampa area to attend the University of South Florida, where he forged friendships that lasted a lifetime.

A dedicated athlete, John completed 20 marathons over a ten-year period, reflecting the determination and perseverance that characterized every aspect of his life. In later years, he enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends at Lake Jovita.

A proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, John embraced the fraternity's principles of friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service throughout his life. He treasured the lifelong friendships he found through SAE and was instrumental in organizing his chapter's 50th anniversary, bringing brothers together to celebrate bonds that had endured for decades. In recognition of his lifelong commitment, he received the fraternity's Distinguished Service Award, its highest individual honor.

Above all, John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Linda; a proud father to Jeff (Mathew) and Marc (Jennifer); and a loving grandfather to Lauren, Ryan, and Emily. Nothing brought him greater joy than cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, celebrating their accomplishments, and spending time with the family he loved so deeply.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Isabelle, in 2005.

He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, quiet strength, and the genuine way he cared for others. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lifelong friendships he cherished, and the example he set for all who knew him.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
