Obituary For John Daniel Preston

John Daniel Preston, 72, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, surrounded by his family. John was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and has made Lake City, Florida, his home for the past 40 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Richard Lamb; his father, Roy Preston; and his brother, Wayne Preston.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Preston; daughters Kimberly Burke and Susan (Joel) Law; four grandchildren, Courtney (Brandon) Leslie, Tyler Burke, Kelsey Burke, and Jacob Law; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Hayden, and Brody; brothers Ronnie (Judy) Preston and Joey (Kimberly) Preston; as well as many nieces and nephews.

John spent his working years in the lumber industry. In retirement, he enjoyed classic cars, CB and ham radio operations, morning coffee with friends, listening to his daughters’ travel stories, and caring for his wife.

His presence will be deeply missed, but the stories he shared, the guidance he provided, and the kindness he showed will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the family cemetery near Junction City, KY.

Dear Kimberly and family, The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains... For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. I wrote your name in the sand, but the waves washed it away. I wrote your name in the sky, but the wind blew it away. So l wrote your name in my heart, and that's where it will stay, always. May this poem help you carry your loved one with you every day. They are not truly gone but have transformed. God bless you and your family.
