Hubert Lee Tomlin
October 13, 1937 – December 22, 2024
Valdosta, GA
Hubert “Lee” Tomlin, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully December 22, 2024 at the age of 87. He was born on October 13, 1937, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, to the late Jesse James Tomlin and Nettie Virginia Alford Tomlin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Grady, Louie, and Earl Tomlin, his sister Lois Tomlin, and his beloved grandson William Christopher Bonner.
Lee was married to the love of his life, Shelby Owens Tomlin, for 64 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Lee was a devoted father to two daughters, Brenda Tomlin Connell (Eric Connell) of Valdosta, GA, and Marie Tomlin Duncan (Scott Duncan) of Houston, TX. He was also a proud grandfather to Jessica Connell Hughes (Bill Hughes) of Birmingham, AL, and Erica Katelyn Connell of Birmingham, AL, as well as a great-grandfather to William Barron Hughes and Sterling Christopher Hughes, both of Birmingham, AL. In addition, Lee is survived by his two beloved toy poodles, Jack and Dolly, with whom he shared a special bond—especially with Dolly, who was truly "his" dog.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Lee served his country with honor. He graduated from Walton County High School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, before enlisting in the military. After leaving the service, he launched a successful career in insurance sales. Known for his magnetic personality and strong work ethic, Lee quickly became a top performer in the insurance industry. He later transitioned to automobile sales, where he earned recognition as the top salesman for many years.
An avid lover of sports and lifelong fan of the Florida Gators, Lee spent many years as a resident of Gainesville, Florida, where he was a proud member of the Gator Touchdown Club. While he loved the Gators, his faith was his greatest passion and priority. Lee was a long-time member of Countryside Baptist Church in Gainesville, FL, and later became a member of Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA.
Above all, Lee was known for his joy and humor. He had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. He was always quick to share one of his famously corny jokes, brightening the day of anyone he encountered. He was passionate about studying the Bible and loved discussing theology. Lee strived to live a life that honored God, leaning into his faith during both joyful and challenging times. His life was a testimony to the power of joy, laughter, and the unwavering strength of faith.
A private family celebration of his life will be held on January 10, 2025, at the Alabama National Cemetery.
Lee's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
