Captain Herb A. Carroll, age 78, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in Fort White, Florida, on 11/7/2025. He was born on October 15,1947 in Springfield, Ohio, to Walter and Virgil Carroll.

Herb proudly served his country in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1970. His love of the sea carried into his civilian life, where he worked as a fishing boat captain. Known for his deep affection for animals and his knack for tinkering, Herb found joy in simple pleasures—whether casting a line, fixing something with his hands, or sharing stories with family.

He is survived by his sisters, Sally Taylor and Barbara Taylor (whose husband Fred Taylor preceded her in death); nieces, including Cindi Spragg and her husband Fred Spragg; and nephews Chris Carroll, Ben Mangini and his wife Ashley, Scott Fogle and his wife Andrea, Tom Terry, and Tony Terry, whose partner Terri preceded him in death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virgil Carroll; his brother, Walter Carroll; his brother-in-law, Fred Taylor; his nephews Jade Mangini, Eric Fogle, and Paul Fogle; and Terri, the partner of his nephew Tony Terry.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Herb’s life and legacy. Following the service, he will be interred at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, honoring his service to the nation with military distinction.

Herb’s voyage through life was marked by service, love of nature, and dedication to family. His watch is now complete, but his memory will remain anchored in the hearts of all who knew him.
