Carlos Martinez, 84, of Live Oak, Florida passed peacefully on May 7, 2024. Carlos was born on April 15, 1940, in Havana, Cuba. He immigrated to the United States, Miami, Florida, in 1960 at age 20 to escape communism. He served in the US Navy and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Florida Atlantic University where he met his wife. He was an insurance adjuster for 40 years covering the southeastern United States to include the Florida Keys and Caribbean. He taught future insurance adjustment licensees at Miami Dade College after his retirement. He lost his son Carl Edward Martinez to cancer on August 10, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laurel Hancock Martinez, his daughter Emily Martinez Whitt, son in law John Todd Whitt, grandsons Johnny Whitt Jr. and Jesse Whitt, and great grandsons Jake Whitt, John Whitt III, James Whitt and Jase Whitt. He was a passionate intellectual, a distinguished gentleman, and a family centered man with a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and humor that he freely shared. As his grandson so accurately stated, “We couldn’t have had any better!”
