Willie Lee Dixon, 72, passed at his home in Lake City surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2021 after battling a chronic illness.
Willie was born in Durham, North Carolina to Winslow and Janie Dixon, where he lived until the age of 2 when they moved to Miami. He was the youngest of 7 children. He attended Carl Parks High in Miami, FL and worked at Frankie’s Pizza on Byrd Road. At the age of 17, he joined the ranks of the Sea Bees in the United States Navy. He served two tours in Vietnam between 1966-1972. He later returned to serve in the Army National Guard’s 631st Maintenance Company. He moved to Starke, FL after serving in the Navy, where he met the love of his life, Linda Ruis. They were married at AirPark Baptist Church on June 29, 1974. They remained in Starke, raising their 3 daughters until they moved to Lake City in 1999.
Surviving family members include his wife, Linda Dixon of Lake City; daughter Lisa Wilson (Michael) of Palatka; daughter Tara Goodman (Buddy) of Lake City; daughter Linda Hopkins (Mike) of Lake City; sisters Ann Rowan and Ruth Andre (Bill); Brother-in-laws Arthur Masters (Annette) and Buddy Ruis (Debbie); sister-in-law Brenda Matthews (James); grandchildren Robert Crosby (Emily), Kristin Price (Brian), Brent Wilson (Brooklyn), Kennedy Taylor (Jesse), Karsen Olive (Nathan), Cameron Hopkins (Destiny), Laycee Wilson; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father, Winslow Dixon, his mother Janie Howard, brothers James and Lewis Dixon, sisters Carolyn Breakfield and Patricia Williams, nephews Jimmy Dixon and Louie Dixon.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held in Starke at AirPark Baptist Church on February 8, 2021 at 2pm. All friends and family are invited to honor his memory. Arrangements trusted to ICS Cremation and Funeral Home, 357 NW Wilks Lane, Lake City, FL 32055.
