Michael Edward Poindexter, 68, of Lake City, Florida went to his forever home on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
He was born on June 29, 1952 in Richmond, Indiana to John Jefferson Poindexter, Jr. and Gladys Gilmore Poindexter. He spent his early childhood and attended schools in the Cambridge City, IN. area before moving to Florida where he graduated in 1971 from Colonial High School in Orlando, FL.
He was employed by Central Florida Maintenance, McTyre Trucking, Orr Sod Company and Lewis Volkswagen in Orlando, FL. before moving to Lake City, Fl. in 1985. He worked as a carpenter and in recent years, he was self-employed, participating in many historical reenactments, old-time festivals and other events where he demonstrated old time skills.
He was a volunteer firefighter and the former fire chief of The Ranchettes Volunteer Fire Department in Suwannee County, Florida where he was successful at acquiring needed equipment, implementing new policies and improving the volunteer fire service in Suwannee County, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Wampler Poindexter, one son, Trevor Johnivan Poindexter, of Lake City, FL. three grandchildren, Cole Johnivan Poindexter, Carson Blake Poindexter, and Chase Alan Poindexter, all of Lake City, FL., one brother, Robert E. Poindexter (Kay), of Young Harris, GA., brother-in-law Barry Wampler (Portia) of Bourbon, IN., sister-in-law Barbara Wampler Hunt-Chavez of Dublin, IN., sister-in-law Susan Wickes(Tom) of Richmond, IN., niece, Nicole Poindexter Merrill (Tim) of Economy, IN., cousins and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Tom and Charlene Bolduc, of Lake City, FL. Rachael Hallonquist and family of Keystone Heights, FL., Bill (Gale) Fox of Indianapolis, IN. and Bob and Debi Burnett of Hudson, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Poindexter, Jr. and Gladys Mae Gilmore Poindexter; grandparents, Harold and Esther Gilmore , and John J. and Mattie Poindexter, a sister Sharon Poindexter Redditt , of Blairsville, GA., brother-in-law Tony Chavez of Dublin, IN. , his father and mother-in-law Ivan and Elaine Wampler of Dublin, . and special friends, D.J. Vettenburg, Gary Mack, Sonny Strickland and John Rundell.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Poindexter on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the Community Center at Hatch Park, in Branford, FL. At 1:00 P.M. followed by food and fellowship. Bring a dish if you would like, but most of all, bring your memories.
