Linda Douglas passed away peacefully July 6, 2019 after a long illness. She was 77. Linda was born in Willimantic, CT in September of 1941 to Hubert and Mildred Kegler. She was a surprise third child to her parents who had two nearly grown children, Hubert (Toby) and Muriel so she was the well-loved baby of the family. After her father’s accidental death, Linda moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her mother when she was six years old. She graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1959.
For many years Linda was a Lab Manager with the Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research, now known as the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research at Nova Southeastern University. However, she loved the mountains and moved near Gatlinburg, Tennessee in the early eighties to follow her dream. She began a second career in hotel management at the Park Vista hotel in Gatlinburg and there met her husband, Ralph Roger Douglas. Ralph and Linda married on New Year’s Eve 1996 on top of a mountain and remained happily married for 23 years. They retired to Live Oak, FL in 1998.
Linda is survived by her husband Ralph, son Sean Rutan (Mary Kay), Lake City, FL and daughter Rene’ Rutan (David), Ponte Vedra, FL, sister-in-law Alice Kegler, Whittier, NC, nephew Jeffrey, Whittier, NC, nieces Jennifer Wright (Roger), Chattanooga, TN, Suzy Lockwood, Tavares, FL, Kristy Usselton, Leesburg, FL and great-niece Katherine Wright, Chattanooga, TN. She is predeceased by her parents Hubert and Mildred, brother Toby (Alice), and sister Muriel.
Linda wanted her life to speak for itself and requested there be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Haven Hospice. Details are available at http://beyourhaven.org/donate. Arrangements have been entrusted to ICS Cremation and Funeral Home. www.icsfuneralservices.com
