Harry Joseph Lennon, III, 77, passed away at home December 29, 2018 from squamous cell cancer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Ann; sister Suanne (George) Ott of Baldwinsville, NY; daughter-in-law Christine Lennon of Phoenix, NY. Also several nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen Lennon, his son David Lennon, his brothers Charles Lennon and Robert Lennon. He was born and raised in Oswego, NY and graduated from SUNY Oswego. Though brought up in the city, he relished his “Gentleman Farm of 80 acres” in Volney. Harry was a history teacher at Phoenix (NY) Central School for 33 years and loved his students. He enjoyed traveling all over the US especially to National Parks and historic sites. He also ran Timbered Acres Stoves, a woodstove and fireplace shop for 18 years. He loved sports; Syracuse University football and basketball teams; played softball for many years and always routed for the Dodgers, whether Brooklyn or Los Angeles. He picked up the game of golf and enjoyed playing it at Oswego Country Club for many years and all over the US when on vacation. After moving to Spruce Creek South, Summerfield, Florida in retirement, he enjoyed the game there. He loved to cook and have friends over for feasts. He also looked forward to going for a drive around the state, checking out new areas and finding a great place for lunch.
There will be no services. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Belleview Public Library, att: Lee Schwartz, 13145 SE Highway 484, Belleview, FL 34420, with checks made out to Marion County Public Library System. Arrangements have been entrusted to ICS Cremation & Funeral Home.
