She attended Cary High School and was a graduate of Meredith College.
She was preceded in death by Harvey Rockwell Cooley, former husband and the father of her 4 children,
her 4 brothers (Franklin, Branson Sr, Earl Jr, and Jay,) Thomas Pitkin, former husband, and Jay LaVista,

Gwen worked as a kindergarten teacher and a travel agent when her children were young and then
purchased her own travel agency, East West Travel, in Palm Bay, FL, which she owned until retirement.
She was cultured, adored travel, golf, dancing, and music. She was a blessing to all who had the good
fortune to know her. Those of us who love her are imagining her in heaven, looking forward to a great
round of golf, and raising a glass as she says, “Cheers!”
