Gayle Janice Solomon (nee, Bach) of Lake City, passed peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 2:20 pm at Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL. Gayle was surrounded by members of her immediate family when she passed peacefully into God’s hands. Gayle was born on June 9, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter of Roberta Murray and Robert Allen Bach. The family later relocated to Corpus Christie, Texas, Nuremberg, Germany, Hampton, Virginia and eventually Birmingham, Alabama. Gayle graduated with the class of 1956 from Philips High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She moved to Lake City, FL circa 1967. She worked for many years at Bruce’s Clothing and The Lovely Shop Boutique in downtown Lake City. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Allen Bach and Roberta Murray, as well as her husband of 36 years, George William “Bill” Solomon, originally from Key West, FL. She is survived by her brother, Richard Murray, of Birmingham, AL; and her son, Bryan Leland Solomon, of Lake City, FL, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gayle was extremely creative. She loved to make dolls and clothing for dolls. She also authored several poems and short stories, including an untitled children’s book. She was an Audubon Society member and avid birdwatcher; she especially loved cardinals and hummingbirds. She enjoyed old movies, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving mother and wife, a wonderful home cook and amazing friend to all who had the privilege to know her. Gayle will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her contagious smile, and her generous nature. Gayle never knew a stranger. It is her unique sense of humor and her spirit of love and compassion for others that we remember as we celebrate her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Central Ministries (Bistro), 217 SW Dyal Ave, Lake City, FL 32024 on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 12 noon.
